(under construction; opening begin 2027)
The ESPRIT lab of the Humanise Core Facility provides a cutting-edge research environment for investigation of sleep, pain and epigenetics. Advanced equipment is available to measure and modulate these processes for both experimental and clinical research on sleep, wakefulness and circadian rhythmicity, pain, vigilance and performance. ESPRIT supports research in healthy participants as well as in clinical populations, with a particular focus on people living with primary and comorbid sleep disturbances and chronic pain conditions.
The ESPRIT Lab can be entered from room JKD.2.G2 on Health campus Jette (Laarbeeklaan 1, Brussels).

- Lab Manual to learn how you can use our rooms and standard equipment for your research.
Equipment:
Three complete polysomnography kits (Vivisol/SOMNOmedics): SOMNO HD Eco recorders with 32-channel EEG headboxes and continuous impedance monitoring, integrated respiratory, oximetry, body-position, activity and ambient-light channels, HD PTZ infrared cameras with integrated microphone, Bluetooth receivers for wireless real-time streaming, DOMINO acquisition and analysis software (2 licenses per unit), docking stations and Li-ion batteries, 32-channel EEG caps, pediatric sensor kits, inductive effort belts in all sizes (XS–XXXL), and a full initial set of sensors and consumables.
Eight ambulatory EEG headbands (Muse S): incl. 24 soft bands, 18-month data-services subscription covering 36 accounts and 252 sessions, including study set-up.
Two semi-professional driving simulators (The SIM POWER): adjustable Cooler Master Dyn X chassis, Tillett B10 XL bucket seats with electric rails, MOZA R16 Ultra force-feedback motors, MOZA Active Pedals, GT wheels, 49-inch curved ultrawide displays, dedicated sim-racing workstations (RTX 5080 / Ryzen 7 9800X3D, 32 GB DDR5, 2 TB NVMe), premium cable management, transport, installation, and software configuration.
The simulators are designed so that they can be reconfigured to a truck cabin layout, which extends their use from passenger-vehicle driving research to professional driver training and fatigue research.
Still to be purchased (2026)
Control room: 3 desktop workstations (i9, 32 GB), 6 displays, desks, and chairs.
Bedrooms: 3 box-spring beds, bedding, wardrobes, dimmable lighting, relax chairs, desks, and 2 workstations.
Test cubicles: 3 workstations with displays and peripherals.
